he Ty Lucas Foundation was established in April, 2010 in memory of Ty Franklin Lucas.  Ty was born on May 11, 2009 to Todd and Angie Lucas.  He was a perfectly healthy little boy, bringing nothing but joy and excitement to his parents, family and friends.  On December 15, 2009 at just 7 months and 4 days old, Ty passed away and went to be with the Lord.  Ty’s death was Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or SIDS is the leading cause of infant death, between ages 1 month and 1 year of age, in the United States.  Approximately .5 in 1,000 infants are lost to SIDS each year.  SIDS is sudden and unexpected, and even after complete autopsy, scene investigation and review of medical history no cause of death is found.  At this time, there is no way to predict which infants will die from SIDS and no way to prevent all cases, though there are many methods of risk reduction.

Although Ty Franklin’s time on earth was short, he touched most people he ever came in contact with.  His big blue eyes, and happy smile captured the hearts of many.  His death has proved to touch just as many hearts as his life.  As his parents, it is our job to live out the legacy of Ty’s life. We were told in a bereavement class that the only life our children have after we lose them, is the life we live for them.  We still want Ty’s life and his legacy to be great!  Through the Ty Lucas Foundation that is just what we hope to accomplish.  Remembering Ty for the miracle and the angel that he was inspires us to provide for the needs of other children in Madison County.  May their life be blessed because of our angel!
